‘Sunday Chutney’ selected for Read for Australia event

Thousands of school children will read Aaron Blabey’s picture book Sunday Chutney (Puffin) during Read for Australia, a nationwide reading event to be held at 2pm (AEST) on 29 August during National Literacy and Numeracy Week (NLNW).

Read for Australia is one of a number of literacy activities held during NLNW, which runs from 25-31 August. Other suggested activities on the NLNW website include A Poem in Your Pocket, book clubs, buddy-reading, book swaps and a whole-school writing event. Author Alison Lester is this year’s NLNW literacy ambassador.

During NLNW there will be a number of prizes awarded by sponsors including: $11,400 worth of print dictionaries and online dictionary subscriptions provided by Macquarie Dictionary; $5400 worth of picture books from Penguin; $1188 worth of picture books from Walker Books; and $99,000 worth of school subscriptions to services by Literacy Planet.
