CHASS Australia Book Prize 2014 shortlist announced

The Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) has announced the 2014 Australia Book Prize shortlist. The prize, worth $3500, is part of the CHASS Australia Prizes program, which aims to draw international attention to Australia’s achievements in the humanities, arts and social sciences.

The shortlisted titles are Joan Beaumont’s The Broken Nation (A&U), Iain McCalman’s The Reef: A Passionate History (Penguin) and Mike Smith’s The Archaeology of Australia’s Deserts (CUP).   

The winner will be announced at the CHASS Australia Prizes Dinner at Parliament House in Melbourne on 8 October.

‘The shortlist for the Book Prize represents a remarkable array of talent and we are honoured to draw attention to the distinguished works,’ CHASS executive director Steven Schwartz said in a statement.
