Penguin announces final book in ‘Obernewtyn’ series

Penguin has announced that the final book in Isobelle Carmody’s long-running ‘Obernewtyn’ series will be published later this year.

The seventh and final book in the series, The Red Queen, will be published nationally in paperback and ebook format on 12 November 2015. The book was originally slated for release in late 2013 but was postponed in 2012.

In a statement on the Penguin Books website, Carmody said, ‘While it’s exciting and beautiful to be able to bring The Red Queen to [the fans], a part of me is very nervous and sad to say goodbye to these characters and the readers who embraced them. I can only hope Obernewtyn fans will enjoy The Red Queen as much as I have enjoyed the journey with them through thirty years of books.’

Carmody published the first book in the series, Obernewtyn, in 1987, and the series has gone on to sell over 350,000 books in Australia. While The Red Queen will be the title of the final installment in Australia, the title was already used in North America where the sixth book in the series The Sending was split into two separate volumes: part one titled The Sending and part two The Red Queen.
